Return of Dubai to global spotlight with Expo 2020

flyingcolour

The month that the whole world, especially Dubai, had been waiting for is finally here. After getting delayed for a year thanks to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Dubai opened the doors of Expo 2020, one of the most anticipated world fairs in the recent times, on 1st October’2021. With what had been being advertised, EXPO 2020 is to be the perfect amalgamation of culture, innovation and development.  And for whoever had watched the opening ceremony on the evening of 30th September’2021 it had become amply clear that it is going to deliver just that.

Thanks to Corona virus’s worldwide devastating effect on life and economy, Dubai like most places had been facing various difficulties. But it’s resilient, prompt response to the pandemic and countermeasures taken to prevent and contain the spread of the virus along with mass vaccination drives had paved the way for Dubai to recover faster. EXPO 2020 is providing the much-needed breath of fresh air and is giving Dubai the opportunity to re-invent itself. With a global exposure, industrial development is expected through various business sectors (from food production and delivery to Fintech). Importance of Dubai when it comes to commerce as well as life increases with the rise in asset prices. Real Estate market is also on the rise thanks to new interests from investors in prime properties. Because of ease of forming new companies in Dubai thanks to various new projects and ease of business operations, many family businesses are also being set-up.

As per H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai,

“Determination, strategy and vision for the future are our real resources in the quest for excellence and success.”

Keeping this forward-thinking mind-set in the forefront, many regulatory policy reforms had been made as part of the Centennial Plan 2071 which aims to make UAE the best country in the world at the end of its hundred years. These policy changes- like cost reduction, long term residency permits and ease of arbitration process- attract more investors, more skills and talent to the shores of UAE and woos them to stay long-term. The EXPO 2020 acts as the breeding ground of new ideas, opportunities and possibilities. It provides the platform for experimentations.

Staying true to its message of innovation and development, the EXPO 2020 has three major districts: the Mobility District, the Sustainability District and the Opportunity District. Each of these districts house their own namesake pavilions along with several pavilions from various countries. There are pavilions of 192 countries in the EXPO 2020 which showcase their history, culture, products and futuristic plans. It opens up huge business opportunities and is in the spotlight of all investors around the world- big or small. Despite obstacles that still need to be handled, the beginning of EXPO 2020 acts as a beacon of the changing wind from the down and depressed pandemic times to the optimistic spirit of the better and brighter future.
